Tony Mott was born in Sheffield, UK and after a diverse career, the man now regarded as Australia’s leading rock photographer permanently settled in Sydney in 1981. Immersing himself in the city’s thriving pub rock scene, Tony soon began combining his duel passions for music and photography, documenting the largely unknown bands he watched perform.
After several months, Divinyls Manager Vince Lovegrove asked to see the shots Tony had taken during the band’s residency at the Piccadilly Hotel in Kings Cross. One of Mott’s images was chosen for use on a tour poster, becoming his first foray into professional photography.
In a career that has gone from strength to strength, Tony has now had his photographs published in 20 countries, appeared on over 450 album covers and in more than 700 magazines. Tony has worked as the official photographer for the Big Day Out festival since it’s inception in 1992 and toured with artists including The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Fleetwood Mac, Sarah McLaughlin, Silver Chair, Neil Diamond and Bob Dylan.
