Sonya Farrell started out shooting friends and local bands in Los Angeles. She enjoyed shooting live rock shows as much for the energy of the fans as for the love of the music. Each band had their own following; their own subculture.

In the early 90′s she made the jump to working with world famous bands that appreciated her style and her ability to shoot in a “fly on the wall” style.

Working with local LA band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers led to shooting the portraits and the cover that graced the band’s ‘Californication’ LP in 1999. That record soared to Platinum quickly, which led to work with other Platinum recording artists on publicity and record packaging; artists like Gwen Stefani & No Doubt, the Black Eyed Peas and Avril Lavigne.

Sonya continues to work with some of her favorite singer/songwriters, including Ryan Adams. By finding “real moments” in otherwise staged Rock and Roll publicity and CD packaging, her images are timeless. Her work has appeared in various international publications including; Rolling Stone, Spin, Vogue and Elle. She currently resides in Brooklyn, NY, raising two children while pursuing both documentary and commercial projects.
