Richard Sharman is one of Melbourne’s hardest working music photographers. Originally from country NSW, Richard started out shooting photos of hard rock bands playing in the dark and dingy pubs of inner city Sydney in the 1980’s.
Richard decided to get serious about music photography in 2005 and since then his work has graced the pages of most Australian music publications, newspapers and numerous overseas magazines including Time Magazine (US), Rolling Stone, The Age, Sydney Morning Herald and The Guardian (UK) as well as being featured on album artwork for musicians both local and international such as Rocket Science, SixFtHick and Jay Reatard (US).
Richard is out shooting live music most nights, covering both small shows and major arena concerts and festivals. Combining his love of both music and photography, Richard primarily shoots live while also undertaking band portrait and commercial work.
In early 2009 Richard was the official photographer for the inaugural Australian All Tomorrows Parties festival at Mt Buller with the bill curated by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
Under the guise of ‘Blackshadow Photography’, Richard also maintains his website with up to date Music and Photography information which receives over 4000 hits per month.
